Introduced integrated football program. Western Australia’s first football competition for the intellectually disabled took a great leap towards reality this season with “Come and Try” days across metropolitan Perth proving to be a huge success.
West Coast Eagles U/23 State Amateur Team defeated the VAFA U/23’s by a point at South Fremantle Oval.
Five teams from the dissolved Sunday Football League were admitted into the League at late notice. Despite initially fixturing problems they have all achieved finals positions with three clubs winning premierships.
Western Australian Football Association (single seam competition) was successfully absorbed into the League.
League conducted first night Grand Final in a very successful venture, Rossmoyne 8.7 (55) and North Fremantle 8.5 (53) to claim H Grade honours on a historical night.
North Beach A Grade continued with Premiership success. Under Coach Bill Duckworth they won their 6th flag in a row, also making it 9 titles in 11 seasons.
Brett Fullarton becomes the first sitting Board Member of the WAAFL to be nominated and elected a Commissioner of the WAFC.
Bassendean stalwart, Dean Martin played his 500th game for the club.
Mark Sinden from Brentwood Booragoon, winner of 11 club Fairest & Best’s and WAAFL C Reserve Fairest & Best winner played his 400th club game.
Wesley Curtin’s Trent Cooper continued his impressive record of WAAFL achievements. A former state player won the league’s E Reserve Fairest & Best medal to go along with his Leading Goal Kicker medal from 2005 and Fairest & Best medals from 2002, 2003 and 2005.
