The appointment of the first woman to the WAAFL Board, Deborah Pett.
West Coast Eagles U/23 State Amateur Team ventured to Tasmania for the first time since 1988 to play a Northern Tasmanian team. The WA team was successful 11.10 (76) to 9.11 (65) in Davenport.
The West Coast Eagles gave support to U/19 representative Team for the first time.
The continued growth of our colts (19’s and under) competition with six new team. Several existing clubs fielded a second colts team for the first time.
Five players were selected from the West Coast Eagles State U/23’s to tour Ireland with the All Australian Amateur Team in October with Coach Wayne Langborne appointed as assistant coach and WAAFL “Umpire of the Year” Colin Gray appointed tour umpire. Peter Grosser was again in the role of Team Manager.
The largest number of invited guests, sponsors, club officials, players and supporters of the WAAFL attended the League’s Annual Presentations and Awards evening at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.
Two of the oldest amateur clubs, North Fremantle and University produced historical books. North Fremantle released “Hell for Leather – The Forgotten Footballers of North Fremantle” while University released their club history entitled “The Green Machine”.
The 2008 season marked the 60th anniversary of the introduction of the send off rule in the WAAFL.
North Beach Amateur Football Club under Coach Bill Duckworth won their 5th ‘A’ Grade Premiership to create a new record for successive premierships. Bill has now coach 8 titles in 10 seasons.
