Struggling financial times
League faces challenging financial times with cash reserves virtually exhausted and clubs struggling to raise the necessary funds via traditional means to pay current affiliation fees then alone an increase to cover the League’s losses. Increased insurance premiums were crippling clubs and the League, the competition and player registration software was obsolete and in a state of collapse and some clubs on the verge of financial ruin. Clubs embrace changes to the payment of affiliation fees by five instalments, paid in full and on time.

Clubs rally for Jayde Seed
Tragic accidental injury to Jayde Seed whilst playing for Belmont Redcliffe. Whilst this accident left Jayde a tetraplegic, it has also left an indelible impact on the public and football community, and clear evidence of the strength and compassion of the Amateur competition and its member clubs. The support provided by Amateur clubs with collections and fundraisers within their own premises plus the many volunteers who came to Subiaco Oval for the West Coast vs Bulldogs and Fremantle vs Adelaide home games to act as collectors was absolutely fantastic.

State team embarrassment
State Team fortunes met with mixed success locally, however efforts against South Australia (in Adelaide) and Victoria (at Subiaco Oval) did not meet expectations, as both opponents overwhelmed us with the inclusion of former local League and AFL players. WA’s 173 point loss to VAFA changes state football to under 23s from 2004.
