Swan Athletic Football Club

An icon at the Swan Athletic Football Club, Alan has a long standing affiliation with the club spanning back to 1977 when he was a player in the Hills Association.

In 1978, Alan joined the Morley Amateur Football Club in order to play on Saturdays, and continued to play on Sundays with Swan Athletic in the Hills Association competition. It was in 1979 that Swan Athletic joined the WAAFL competition, where Alan would commit the following 15 years playing amateur football.
As a senior player until 1989, he played over 240 games with Swan Athletic, and an additional 19 at Morley. Of these games at Swan Athletic, he played in six WAAFL grand finals, claiming the premiership on three occasions.

Whilst a player, Alan was also very active off the field and undertook various roles over his extensive time at Swan Athletic. From 1978 to 1981, he was club Treasurer before
moving onto a four year period from 1986 to 1989 as club Secretary. Four years later in 1993, Alan was Vice President for two years before becoming club President from 1995 to 2001. Alan then had a short break from the club’s committee, before again returning to the committee in 2005 and then to Vice President in 2007 and President again from 2012 to 2017.

Alan’s commitment to the club was recognised in 1986 when he was awarded Life Membership of the Swan Athletic Football Club. During his time as player and committee member, he was also the Reserves Coach from 1993 to 1994, and was the B Colts Coach in 2000.

It is clear from his extensive commitment to the club that Alan has made a remarkable contribution to the success and sustainability of the Swan Athletic Football Club.
In 2014 the WAAFL recognised Alan’s tireless efforts and involvement in amateur football for over 35 years with Life Membership.
