North Beach Amateur Football Club
John Davies began his involvement in amateur football in 1964 as a foundation member of the North Beach Amateur Football Club. He played over 200 games of amateur football with North Beach as well as holding various committee roles at the club.
John was involved with the committee at North Beach between 1965 and 1995. Over his 30 years on the committee he was President for 12 years as well as holding Secretary and Treasurer positions. During this time, he also captained and coached the North Beach Reserves team.
John was awarded Life Membership of the North Beach Amateur Football Club in 1975.
John joined the WA Amateur Football League Board in 1969. He became President of the WAAFL in 1996, a position he would hold for the next 20 years.
While President of the WAAFL, John served on several committee’s including the Hall of Champions, Heritage Committee, Integrated Football and the Community Football Advisory Council. He is also a delegate to the Australian Amateur Football Council which he became involved with in 1990.
He has served in various roles with the WAAFL State Teams as a selector, assistant Team Manager and Manager.
While President of the WAAFL, John was responsible for various changes such as the reintroduction of the delegates system, supported the new concept of State Football and the introduction of staggered affiliation payments over the year.
John was also responsible for gaining funding and office space from the WA Football Commission to offset administration costs which resulted in an annual saving of $350,000 to all amateur clubs.
John was awarded WAAFL Life Membership in 1989 and is now in the process of collating the history of the WAAFL.
