“Bill” Smith played almost 200 games for Mt Hawthorn West Perth from 1938 to 1951. In 1963 Bill was appointed to serve on the Protests and Disputes Tribunal, a position he held for 19 years until his death in 1982. During this time he sat on over 250 cases and was widely known for his fairness.

Bill was honoured with Life Membership of the WAAFL in 1976.
