Geoff started umpiring in the Perth Junior Districts before serving two years on the WAFA panel, five seasons with South Suburban Murray Football League and 10 seasons umpiring in the WAAFL where he umpires approximately 180 games

He served 7 years as a member of the Umpires Board, observing matches each weekend as well as Investigation Officer for 3 years and Appeals Chairman for 5 years.

Geoff was a member of the Tribunal from 1980 to 2010, Chairman since 1982

Geoff was awarded the Australian Sports Medal from the Commonwealth Government for Australian sporting achievement for services to sport in 2000 and the Volunteers Award from the WAFL for long and valuable service to WA Football and Merit Award for long and valuable service to the WA Amateur Football League in 2002.

Received an AFL Volunteers Award for services to Australian Sport in 2004 and WAAFL Life Membership in 2006.
