The Secretary advised, having attended a meeting by the WANFL of the Junior Football Bodies and as a result of the meeting, the League Delegates agreed to our proposal to conduct a Junior (under 20) competition and all promised their support in the venture. It was resolved that, if possible, this competition to be conducted on Sundays.
Seven clubs, Maylands, East Perth, Wembley, Victoria Park, Claremont – Nedlands, Bayswater and Midland Junction notified their intention to field a team.
It was agreed that all permits to play must be accompanied by a copy of the applicants Birth Certificate with leniency provided to the end of May ( the season organised to start on 2nd May) because of the difficulty being experienced of these being obtained quickly.
It was decided to call this new grade the WA Amateur Colts. The WANFL provided a grant of £200 for the initial year to assist in paying for ground and umpires.
Old Louisians Football Club applied for registration and were admitted. Swanbourne- Cottesloe advised of a change of name to Swanbourne-Nedlands.
University & Fremantle CBC Old Boys were relegated to ‘A’ Reserve with Midland-Junction & Bayswater elevated to ‘A’ Grade.
At the Annual General Meeting, Mr. R. Hill was re-appointed Patron, Mr. C.J. Veryard as President, Mr. V.E. Bennett as the Senior Vice President, Mr. H.G. Lippiatt as Hon. Auditor, Mr. H.B. Grosvenor as the Hon. Secretary / Treasurer, Mr. J. Walsh as the Hon. Assistant Secretary & Social Secretary, Mr.V.E. Bennett as the third member of the Umpire’s Board.
Others elected Vice Presidents, Messrs S. Miller, C. Jamieson, T. Naylor, H. Lewis, R. Foster.
Protests & Disputes Board, Mr. J. Dolan, R. Dalziell, S.C. Bruce, T. Crapp, S. Miller.
Grounds & Fixtures Committee, Mr. L. Tetley, Mr. T. Naylor. Umpires Coach Mr. H.F. Buchanan. Executive Committee, Mr. G. Cox, L. Tetley, for ‘A’ Division and Mr. W. Rankin & E. Greeman for ‘A’ Reserves.
Following a notice of motion that had been given, that Rule 70, as at present be amended to read – “ The Re-Instatement Committee should comprise of five Life Members, who should take their place on such committee on order of seniority, when available, provided that any member whose club has an interest in an application brought before the committee, shall not sit on the committee when such application is being considered”, the alteration was agreed to unanimously.
Match fees of £70 per club were set with umpires fees of £3.3.0 for the senior competition and £2.2.0 for the colts.
It was agreed that we accept the alteration request of the AAFC of the Carnival dates from our suggested June to July.
The Carnival to be held on Subiaco Oval on Sunday July 12th , Tuesday 14th & Thursday 16th.
Mr C.J. Jamieson was appointed Manager of the WA Team & Mr. H. Lewis as Assistant Manager. Mr J. Marchant was appointed as coach.
A Selection Committee of Mr. V. E. Bennett (Chairman), S. Miller, G. Travers, R. Foster & J. Marchant were appointed.
Mr. W. Lewis & Mr. W. McMahon were appointed as trainers for the team.
Bright Spot’s tender of £90 was accepted for the sole catering rights. Admission charges of 3/- for Adults, 1/- for Children would apply on Sunday but only 3/- for Adults with Children free on Tuesday and Thursday.
Mr Cox was asked to provide 3 yellow & 3 red football each day.
It was decided to present each player of the team with a team photograph taken at the ground rather than the issue of blazer pocket, and the 25 players be permitted to retain their state guernseys.
The Social Committee reported that the Ball conducted at the Embassy Ballroom was poorly attended, only 160 present, & receipts did not cover expenses.
It was decided that the publication of the Football Budget would continue in 1960, each club to appoint an official Press Representative. All clubs must forward notes each week & any club not doing so will be automatically fined an amount of £1.0.0.
The Association Trophies were presented at Melvista Oval on October 9th, to which the members of the State Team were invited.
Honorariums were granted to the Hon. Secretary Treasurer £100. Hon. Assistant Secretary £15, the Hon Auditor $7.7.0, the umpires coach £50. Because of additional amount of work carried out with the Carnival, as well as the introduction of the Colts, a special honorarium of £30 was granted to the Hon. Secretary / Treasurer & £15 to the Hon. Assistant Secretary.
The umpires fees for the second round of fixtures of £4 Central ‘A’ & ‘A’ Reserve, £2 Boundary & £1.10.0 goals, with the Colts Central £2.12.6, Boundary £1.10.0 & Goals £1.5.0 were paid.
Approval was granted for clubs to make country trips, East Fremantle, Belmont, South Perth, Fremantle CBC Old Boys, Cockburn, while Mosman Park playing Kojonup at home.
