1957

The Annual General Meeting was held & attended by 15 Clubs. The election of officers saw Mr. R. Hill re-elected as Patron, Mr. C.J. Veryard as President and Mr. V.E. Bennett as the Senior Vice-President.

The other Vice-Presidents elected were Messrs S. Miller, H.Lewis, C. Jamieson, J. Keanneally & T. Naylor.

Mr. H.B. Grosvenor was re-appointed as Hon. Secretary / Treasurer, Mr. J. Walsh as Assistant Hon. Secretary.

Mr. H.G. Lippiatt was re-appointed as Hon. Auditor as was Mr. V.E. Bennett to the Umpires Board as the third member.

The Executive Committee saw Mr. L. Tetley & Mr. G. Cox elected for ‘A’ Division and Mr. R. Forster and J. Dawson for the ‘B’ Division.

Inglewood, Osborne Park and Teachers College had withdrawn from the competition so it was conducted in two divisions, 10 teams in ‘A’ Division & 12 teams in ‘B’ Division.

With the introduction of the WANFL ‘Thirds’ competition, the MJFA and Fremantle Ex-Scholars Association to raise their age limit two years, meant the normal influx from these two bodies to the Association did not eventuate. Clubs felt the pinch and were urged to build up their teams with young men.

It was adopted that the time of registration of a player would be extended from Friday preceding a game to 5pm on the Monday following the game. Clearances and verification of amateur status to remain and be in on the Friday preceding the game.

The committee decided to take over the production of the “Amateur Football” publication as Mr. Brosnan who had responsible for the ground work was unable to continue. Mr. Gordon Cox volunteered and was elected editor.

Each club would take a minimum of 25 copies weekly. The cost would be calculated and each club would be debited with a percentage. Any advertisements obtained by clubs would be credited to their account towards the cost of their copies.

The Grounds & Fixtures Committee elected were Messrs T. Naylor & A. Moncrieff.

It was agreed a goal kicking record would be kept and it was the clubs to arrange that club goal kickers were recorded each week on the team sheets.

When the fixtures had been drawn up Victoria Park was relegated to the ‘B’ Division and Midland Junction and Fremantle CBC Old Boys were elevated to the ‘A’ Division as a result of the 1956 results.

Because of the lack of interest by clubs no Annual Presentation night was held.

East Perth had won the ‘A” Division and Victoria Park the ‘B’ Division.

Mr. R. Thomas of Mosman Park had won the ‘A’ Division  Best & Fairest Medal and Mr. C. Litterick the ‘B’ Division. Medal. Presentations of the awards were to be presented at the clubs own functions, if requested.

Correspondence at the end of the season from Fremantle advising it was changing its name to the Cockburn Amateur Football Club.

Mr. C. J. Veryard was congratulated when it was reported that he had been elected as President of the AANFC.

North Fremantle was granted permission to travel to Melbourne in 1958, while East Perth to Northam, Bayswater to Mt. Barker, Claremont to Tammin, Maylands to Meckering and Wembley to Carramah were granted permission to travel after the season end.
