1940

Mr C.J Veryard continued as President and Mr H.B Grosvenor as Secretary/Treasurer.

The Executive Committee continued with Messrs V. Bennett, W. Robinson, R. Staples, while J. Kenneally was replaced by Mr. Fraser.

Later, due to AIF enlistment, Messrs McKenzie and Rodgers were elected as replacements for the Fixture Committee.

A team of RAAF was admitted to the association while Interbanks withdrew. The South Perth club went into recess in June after the season had commenced and its ex-players from the club were given permission to play with other clubs.

In view of the numerous enlistments of players, for the duration of the war, it was agreed that only one (1) game needed to be played for entitlement to play finals.

An amount of $25 ($50) was invested in a face of interest war loan and was left to review the association finances of investing further.

Donations of $5.5.0 ($10.50) and $3.3.0 ($6.30) were provided to the St Johns Ambulance Perth and Fremantle divisions for their services rendered throughout the season.

Clubs generally were finding it hard to meet their financial obligations, so it was decided for the duration of the war, that an amendment to the rule be made to permit clubs to supply a ball, but not necessarily a new one – but had to be approved by the opposing Captains & the Umpires and each one used for half the match.

Towards the end of the year some clubs were in debt to the association, so it was agreed that a debt of over $2 ($4) would restrict it from playing in the finals.

Mr V. Bennett was elected as a life member for services rendered.

A social for the presentation of trophies was held at a cost of 2/6 (25c) per head.

The winner of the Fairest & Best player was won by Mr R. Hagan of Inglewood from a count back with a Mr Snell of Mosman Park.

East Fremantle took out the Bradford Cup for the ‘B’ division & Wembley, undefeated in the ‘A’ division & awarded the Sandover Shield.

After honorariums of $12 ($24) and $2.2.0 ($4.40) for the Secretary and Typist were allocated and ground fees, umpires fees paid, an amount of $10 ($20) was invested in war saving certificates.
