1924

At the 1924 Annual General Meeting held in April, it was decided to change the name of the Association to the Perth District Football Association. This would enable the affiliation of clubs other than those representing business or mercantile houses.

The elected Vice Presidents were one delegate from four of the five clubs.

New clubs admitted were Modern School (Navy blue, red and gold), Teachers College (Green and gold) and Water Supply (Black red hoop). The other clubs were Harris Scarf & Sandovers (Maroon) and Commonwealth Bank (Royal blue and gold).

The Association purchased boundary flags 2/6d (25c) for use by clubs.

Applications for umpires were deferred for one week after the WAFL to allow them ‘the chance of dealing with their applications’.

Two umpires were ‘given a trial and of satisfactory they were to be engaged’. Umpire J Wallace was reappointed despite the fact that his services were dispensed with by delegates the previous season. Club delegates voted for the Grand Final Umpire. After a voting tie, the umpire was selected by draw.

Clearances were approved or denied by delegates at meetings.

Mr Alfred Sandover offered to present a shield for the Association. It was accepted but it was decided to defer its awarding till 1925. The Sandover Shield is still contested and presented to the A Grade Premiership team.

Mr W.R (Billy) Orr continued to have an influence on the fledging Association and assisted in arranging grounds. He advised the University of WA were holding a meeting to ascertain if they would submit a team. Their acceptance was dependent upon the number of grounds available. They did not join until 1929.

Grounds used included Lotons Park (Perth Oval), Beatty Park, Modern School Oval, Claremont Oval and Subiaco Oval.
