Richard Goyder AO

Player | University, Old Scotch | 1970-1980s

Richard is a leading Australian businessman and sporting administrator who became Chair of the Australian Football League in 2017.

He played for University and Old Scotch in the 1970s and 80s. In mid 1982 he transferred from University to Old Scotch to gain a regular senior game. Ironically, later that year, he went onto win the A-Grade Premiership with Old Scotch against University.

In business, Richard replaced former University player Michael Chaney AO as CEO and Managing Director of Wesfarmers from 2005 to 2017.

As of 2021, Richard is Chair of the Australian Football League, Woodside Petroleum and Qantas.

Goyder served on the Board of Fremantle Football Club from 2006 to 2011.

Richard’s two sons, Matthew and William played at University and Mosman Park respectively, with Matthew representing WA in the West Coast Eagles State U23s Amateur Team in 2016 against Tasmania and then captaining WA in 2017 against Queensland.
